"We first switched off the connections to the inverter and started pouring water on the fire. When fire continued to spread, we informed the fire brigade," Karmarkar said.
Karmarkar said five families reside in the one-storey wada. At the time of the incident, two of the families were not at home. "Once the fire started spreading, all of us came down to the road," Kulkarni said, adding, "The fire gutted Mathkari's room, and the two adjoining rooms were also affected."
According to station duty officer D N Nagalkar, the control room of the fire brigade received a call at 2.10 am. "Initially, we sent one fire tender to the spot. After receiving reports on the extent of the fire, we sent two more fire tenders and two water tankers," Nagalkar said.
